THE WATCH LIST WITH Charlotte Regan

“GREAT FILM, GREAT SCORE, GREAT ALIENS.”

With Charlotte Regan’s stunning debut Scrapper out now, we sat down with the director to chat all about the films that inspire her, plus her love of non-hostile aliens.

1. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (2007)

“10/10, sick film. Inspired the chase sequence in Scrapper. Love Matt Damon - big fan.”

2. Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)

“It didn’t inspire Scrapper, but I just love the little fire - Calcifer isn’t it? Big fan of the little fire.”

3. BABYTEETH (2020)

“I love like the style of this film, the colours in it, and I love the casting and the acting. Just everything, really, nothing not to love. Shannon Murphy - 10/10 job, banging film.”

4. PARIS, TEXAS (1984)

“I just love the kind of parent-kid relationship in it, and how it's flawed and how they just run with that. And I love the sequence where they're walking across the road, when he picks him up from school - we copied that for Scrapper.”

5. ARRIVAL (2016)

“I love films about aliens that aren’t hostile - like I love non-hostile alien films. I'm starting a list on Letterboxd for non-hostile alien films, so if anyone has any recommends, let me know. It didn’t inspire Scrapper but just - great film, great score, great aliens.”
