My First Time: Simon Bird

No longer a scrawny student from The Inbetweeners, Simon Bird is finding his voice as a filmmaker with his sweet and sincere directorial debut Days of the Bagnold Summer.

The film is about, according to Bird: “A teenage boy whose summer holiday plans are cancelled, and who suddenly has to spend a lot of time at home with his mum. Sound familiar, anyone?” Indeed, it’s a perfect film to watch in the middle of an endless lockdown, still somehow finding small bursts of joy in the monotony.

We spoke to Simon Bird about working with Earl Cave and making his big debut as a filmmaker – all while directing with a two-year-old on set. Take a look at the video interview here.
